Fort Hoop (“House of Good Hope”) trading post is established in Connecticut.

Constructed by the Dutch, it is located just south of today’s Hartford. Soon after, Pequot warriors attack and kill some Native Americans, who have begun trading with the Dutch. The Dutch respond by kidnapping, holding for ransom, but then killing Pequot chief sachem Tatobem, father of Sassacus.
